DEMOGRAPHICS: The town of Dedham borders Boston, has a population of over 23,000 people, and an area of 10.79 square miles. The town is primarily a residential community with some high tech industry. A large freigh train yard exists on the Hyde Park border and the Norfok County House of Corrections is located here. Commuters can access the town through Route 128 as well as through bus lines and the commuter rail of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. There are no emergency departments within the town, but patients may opt to be transported to one of the Boston hospitals.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT - THEN AND NOW: The Dedham Fire Department responds from two stations staffing three engines and one ladder. Fire Alarm is operated out of the Headquarters station and the frequency of 153.950 has changed to 453.6875. In 1993, the apparatus roster consisted mostly of Seagrave. Today the department operates with a combination of E-One and American LaFrance. The color scheme has remained white/red. Still on the roster from 1993 are Engine 2's 1991 E-One, Ladder 2's 1989 Seagrave and Squad 1's 1983 GMC/Grumman. All are in reserve status. Dedham responds to medical emergencies on a first responder basis with Fallon Ambulance Service providing transporting services.
