DEMOGRAPHICS: The town of Lexington is located north west of Boston, has a population of over 29,000 people, and an area of 16.63 square miles. This upscale community is home to a number of electronic and technological firms and has a large downtown area with shops and stores. The town has a lot of historical significance as it played a major part in the Revolutionary War. Commuters can access the town through Route 128 as well as through the commuter rail of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. There are no emergency departments within the town, but patients may opt to be transported to one of a hospital in nearby Burlington, Waltham, or Winchester.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT - THEN AND NOW: The Lexington Fire Department responds from two stations staffing a combination of three engines, one ladder, and two ambulances with manpower being utilized to cross staff certain vehicles as needed. Fire Alarm is operated by civilian dispatchers and the frequency of 154.340 has not changed. In 1993, the apparatus roster consisted mostly of Mack, Maxim, and KME. Today the department operates with mostly E-One and the newest delivery is an HME/Ferrara. The color scheme has remained white/red. There are no apparatus still on the roster from 1993. Lexington responds to medical emergencies with an ALS ambulance.
