Here are some photos and information my father received on the bell of the USS Des Moines from Russell Bierl, director of the Gold Star Musuem.
The bell has a 33.75" diameter, a 37" height, and weighs just shy of a 1,000 lbs. We will have the bell on exhibit in Sept of this year after construction is completed on our new museum addition. We will also exhibit the stern name plate of the ship at our museum. Please come and visit. After it is installed we will have website photos of the bell and stern plate.
