AUGUST The U.S. Coast Guard commissioned its newest cutter, Coast Guard Cutter Earl Cunningham (WPC 1159) on August 11th. The 154' Fast Respnose Cutter will be based out of Kodiak, AK. The U.S. Coast Guard officially commissioned the USCGC Storis (WAGB 21) in Juneau, Alaska on August 10th. The ship was acquired on December 20, 2024 from Edison Chouest Offshore. The former motor vessel Aiviq was completed in 2012 and is 360' long. APRIL The U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned the 110' Island Class cutter USCGC Liberty (WPB-1334) on April 30th in Valdez, AK. Commissioned in December of 1989, the USCGC Liberty is the last Island Class cutter to be decommissioned. The class has been replaced by the 154' Fast Response Cutters. The U.S. Coast Guard has decommissioned the 110' Island Class Cutter USCGC Mustang WPB-1310 in Seward, AK. Commissioned on August 29, 1986, the USCGC Mustang spent it's entire service career workout out of Seward. MARCH The U.S. Coast Guard has commissioned the 154' Fast Response Cutter John Witherspoon (WPC-1158) on April 3rd. The USCGC John Witherspoon is the 58th FRC to be commissioned, which are replacing the aging 110' Island Class cutters. The U.S. Coast Guard has decommissioned the 110' cutter USCGC Nashon WPB-1311. Commissioned on October 3, 1986, the cutter's last home port was in Homer, AK. The Coast Guard has been retiring the older Island Class cutters and replacing them with the new Sentinel Class 154' cutters.
